Hope you all had a great Easter Weekend! We stayed local and had such a great time. Lunching with friends, movies, beach time, pampering, fun nights out and retail therapy. Yesterday I went and checked out a new store that has opened in Ballito, at the Lifestyle Centre called Lifestyle Health. It is a local health store stocked with top quality supplements, natural foodstuffs and organic products, each individually sourced and selected by mother and daughter duo, Steph and Judy. They pride themselves on great service, friendly staff and excellent nutritional advice.
It is packed with loads of gluten free products, herbal teas, supplements, natural products and tasty healthy snacks. I bought myself some delicious gluten free Biscotti Biscuits and Nettle Tea, which is great for my condition.
Some information on Nettles:
Nettles have a long history of medicinal use, and the leaves and roots are made into a tea and drunk for a variety of health-enhancing purposes. Nettles are nutrient dense and contain fatty acids, the minerals calcium, copper, iron, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, potassium, selenium, sulfur and zinc, as well as vitamins B-1, B-2, B-3, B-5, C, E, K and folate. In addition, nettles contain numerous phytochemicals, including lycopene, beta-carotene, caffeic acid, acetic acid and betaine. Phytochemicals are naturally occurring plant compounds that prevent free-radical-induced damage to your cells and DNA, and thereby help prevent and treat diseases in humans. Nettles have anti-inflammatory, diuretic and pain-relieving properties.
Benefits of Nettle Tea:
- Is used to treat urinary tract infections
- Fights coughs, tuberculosis and asthma
- Counters arthritis, rheumatism, tendonitis and other disorders of the muscles and joints
- Combats a variety of intestinal disorders
- Fights skin problems
- Fights allergies like eczema, and hay fever
